    WONDERFUL GAME!!!

I’m loving it so far, and it makes me even more excited for the Wild West update :)

    Seems awesome!

    But couple of first criticism:

-The ball could go faster, seems like there´s enough much action, feels like I am waiting more than actually playing. Kinda “slo-mo” feeling all the time. Could be ok for the children, but for more advanced players the action gets bit boring. Also the ball could make a rolling sound when it is moving like in the Zen pinballs.

Please make it more action paced!

-When I scored my first game high score (over 8 million, never got past 5 million in WWP :P ) I couldn´t get anywhere from the name signing, so I had to close the application and loose my high score.

    Apparently a bug.

  9. Pat says:

    August 4th, 2009 at 4:09 pm (#)

Ok, after a few minutes I’m getting used to it. Was a little scared because there are so many elements that it’s confusing to stay focussed. I agree to that “a lot of waiting” point, when your ball falls down from the top it’s difficult to time your tap because it takes soooo long.

@Bobi: Tap “Return” on the iPhone keyboard, that’s all.

So I have been waiting for this app to be released just as much as the next person. But it turns out that this application only works on the iPhone, what the hell that is some bullsh*t. I tried to d/led it but i was told that my device required that version 3.0 iPhone update. Is there an update for the iPod Touch that will allow me to use this game?

  18. JavaJ says:

    August 4th, 2009 at 10:58 pm (#)

Liking the game- but there are some similar issues that I have found (but- for a buck- everyone buy it).
    1. If something lights up- then it should give you a score (like the top rail lights- you light them up for no apparent reason- give us some points)
    2. Same thing with all the lane pins (those metal pins that the ball goes over in almost every lane). In real pinball- you always get points- if not- then why do you have the graphics there
    3. High score name issue- the way around this is the touch your name- which will bring up the keyboard- then you can submit- definately a bug
    4. again- if it lights up when it gets hit by a ball- for crying out loud- give us some points.
    5. Is it me or can you tilt now?

  19. svolskiy says:

    2 Steve:
The Deep is for both devices iPhone and iPod Touch, but it requires the 3.0 system.

  20. JavaJ says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 12:33 am (#)

Some more comments- ok- the sound system is pretty good- but the game deserves some “Deeper” effects- like the cyclone thing- it would be cool to have a wushy airy watery sound happen when the ball goes over it while it is spinning. Also, the male voice effects are a little bad- really- “I’ll be back”?? You could take the game up a notch with some updates to the sound effects.

Also, you might want to have someone with a good handle of English proofread your tutorial- the sentences are not well crafted.

I do like that if you are skilled enough- you can bounce your ball out of the sink lanes (just keep the flipper up and shake just as the ball is about to go into the bottom and you might get it back onto the table).

  21. blowback says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 12:48 am (#)

Nice work, I just gave you a positive 5* review on the app store. I’ll repeat my minor criticisms from there tho: 1) you can’t rotate the lit lights on the 3-lane gate at the top 2) the computer’s voice has gone a bit mental “you have got the mission – keep on…checkpoints!”.

Oh and it’s “advice”, not “advise” in the mission briefing text. If you want somebody really pedantic to check your strings, drop me a mail ;)

On the whole, superb effort though. It’s the only pinball sim where I have managed to use tilt to pull off a bangback save!

  25. eobet says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 4:26 am (#)

I click on support and end up on a page with just a Youtube video. Where is the official support?

Not that my questions are that important. I’m just curious as to why a modern pinball game doesn’t allow the player more control. For example, you should be able to cycle the three lights near the bumpers at the top with the paddles and you should be able to use the paddle to launch the ball at will during the targeting modes (seems fully automatic now, but I could be mistaken).

So far, the classic Pinball Fantasies does a better job at making the table interactive.

  26. Connor says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 4:51 am (#)

I have waited to buy the game for 2 weeks now but because I have a jailbroken2.2.1 iPod I can’t download it. Is there anyway you could make it avalible on 2.2.1???

  27. blowback says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 6:06 am (#)

@eobert in targeting mode the gun sight oscillates backwards and forwards, if you flip it restarts its cycle, so you do have some control.

I find the bottom playfield kicker a bit vicious – it kicks out suddenly and without any kind of warning.

LOL i swear the guy just said “I am in deep ass” ;)

  28. Jon says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 8:36 am (#)

It’s very nicely done, but I do have some constructive criticism. It has a great looking playing field and very nice action and sound effect. It should be an addictive pinball game, but there are some flaws.

Most important, pinball is about the flippers. The game doesn’t always display the flippers before the ball reaches them, forcing me to anticipate the ball hitting the flippers rather than watching the ball approach and planning my shot. This detracts from the game in my opinion. Even though it would be small, I wish you had a fullscreen mode that didn’t jump around. I want to play the game watching the entire playing field at once, just like real pinball.

The whirlpool should be faster. It really slows the game down, especially after hitting it a few times in a row. If it were an occasional thing it wouldn’t matter, but the ball goes there frequently. What’s with the “needs more energy” message? How about telling us how to get more energy? Also, we don’t need to hear the “you have the mission” message every time the ball hits the main bumper, just when the status changes, and I don’t like being constantly reminded to follow the checkpoints. The checkpoints are difficult to follow because you often can’t see where they are. I’d also like to see a little more bumper action on top. After the flippers, the bumpers are probably the most important aspect of a pinball game.

Anyway, I like the game, but think it could be improved.

    August 5th, 2009 at 10:40 am (#)

Sweet game. Very nice work on making the game more complicated.
    Two suggestions:

    1. Give us the option to turn off the soundtrack and listen to our own iPod music.

    2. Send your scripts to me in advance and I’ll proofread them. The English is mangled and sometimes makes no sense. I’m a professional journalist/editor and would be happy to help — if only so I don’t have to hear the inane commentary every five seconds.

Thanks again for a really fun game. Possibly the best 99 cents I ever spent.

  30. YeahYeah says:

    August 5th, 2009 at 12:41 pm (#)

I would love to hear back from some of the devs about the many flaws and criticisms people are pointing out. The fact that you hit the mission bumper dead on and lose all forward momentum most of the time when you enter a ball in play is pretty dumb. It just seemed way too rushed with too many little mistakes. When mission bumper is hit and a yellow arrow is activated, play should pause and a quick camera pan to the location of arrow would be nice. So write back and we wont think you guys pulled a Steve Miller and “Take the money and run”. Also, don’t delete this comment for no reason.

some more critiques- for some reason- the text is upside down for Get Mission. It should be fixed as it looks odd.
Also- you say this is a sub- but honestly- where is there any resemblence to a submarine- shouldn’t it be a ship instead- or add some elements like a periscope.

WELL DONE GAMEPROM!!! You’ve blown WWP out of the water! No more frustration … just wave after wave of enjoyable game play.

Just one question: What’s the secret to controlling the “Hunting” shooter?

  37. AM says:

    August 6th, 2009 at 6:23 pm (#)

WWP was brilliant! This is clearly richer and deeper (heh). But – what’s with the poor grammar and spelling? And why the need to have the inane voiceover stuff?

The graphics and animation of this one are absolutely amazing though.

I’m absolutely addicted to the Deep! Some free ideas to ponder for future Pinball games if you haven’t already…

    1) Take advantage of the in-app buying and sell new boards within the app. Use the same engine, but have new games/themes for download.
    2) Think outside the physical pinball limitations. Have some of the holes/pockets make the ball jump to a different screen and then go back to the first through another. New levels could be entirely new boards.
    3) Changes to the ball in size, magnetism, splitting into multiple balls etc.
    4) Add the option to listen to the iPod instead of the game music but still have the sound effects.

  39. Jon says:

I would really like to know what to do when you get the energy is low and you need more power messages.

  40. h says:

Seems like low power is only when you don’t hit it hard enough.

It would be great to figure out the scoring on this. I find myself just focusing on getting the big 500k bonuses (which seems to work as I am getting close to the top 10). Too bad the dev doesn’t comment on this blog.

well, its made it very well.
Just one thing. When you play, and someone calls you you lost everything. the game doesn’t pause automatically, you can’t pause and go back to the main menu of the iphone.
    anyone as the solution?
    come on guys, do something

  44. Mark says:

    August 9th, 2009 at 3:10 am (#)

I have been waiting for the realease and got it the first day out….improved from around 150 world score the first day to around 80 world score (over 21million) after a couple days.

    Here are my comments:

    1) for those of you who want to know how to get energy, hit all three of the targets in the middle of the table. They ensure you will get the treasure chest opened. The other way to do it is to just shoot the treasure chest 2x in a row. That usually works but sometimes it does not. If you have the energy targets lit you hear an additional woosh when you go up the ramp to the chest.

    2) The sunken ship is a real pain. It scores about the same as the bank in WWP but TDP table seems to score about 10x as much as WWP. I HATE doing great on the sunken boat and then only getting around 50K. Seems a waste….just 10x the score and maybe make it harder to enter the boat like also requiring energy.

    3) The missions are too inconsistent…some are trivial some are hard. Green, Blue, Yellow, and Red all get harder as you go, but boat dock is one of the Green missions and it it hard to land a 3 balls in the boat dock (when you are aming) and is a bit furstrating. On the Yellow missions some of them demand you drain the ball down the side which doesn’t seem “fair”.

    4) The boat dock- the score multipliers are nice but what would be much more interesting is to make have it REPAIR one or 2 of your side lanes/drains if you can light all three docks. I thought that was what the assistent means by make repairs. Would be very interesting to implement.

    5) The sunken ship is so low scoring it gets in the way of the ~500,000 you get from the chest so in the end you tend to avoid the sunken boat. Not good since it is kind of cool. Again 10x score for the sunken ship would be nice.

    6) I get an “oh no” very often when I hit the top hunting target for no reason…looks like a bug.

    7) I just read bumping the side drains works…I have never saved a ball from the side drain espeically difficult since you can’t see them as both sides are covered.

    8) Hunting- really cool and fun. Why not add a few more varieties of rare things to hunt aside from teh shark? Maybe give you more points for more rare. The male voice says “nice” even when you hit bubble targets. Sometimes you get no shark and just 3 bubble targets….too bad….but understandable.

    9) There aren’t verey many times you can watch your score since you are busy as soon as I open up the chest the score indicats you get treasure but does not tell you how much…..flashing what you just earned for all of the big scoring items would be nice.

    10) I have no complaints about the whirl pool like many do BUT the targets above the whirl pool are only possible to hit at random….that espeically sucks when they are part of a mission.

    11) There should be some extra bonus for completing each mission level and/or checkpoint.

Most of these are minor grips…all in all you should have charged more then 0.99!!!!!!!!

Great job and I hope you hear my feedback. I have done beta-testing for other companies and would love to help beta test and give suggestions for new releases…email me if someone from gameprom is reading this.

    Mark

    August 9th, 2009 at 2:43 pm (#)

Well done! It is a game that is certaintly worth 99c if not much more! Great physics and graphics.

Some gameplay feedback on a few of the mission targets: There are three targets that are incredibly hard to hit without a lot of luck: 1. All three docks (the ball seems to bounce off the rails about 90% of the time, 2. The upper right 3 button bar is impossible to hit. You have to rely on complete luck from the whirlpool and even the. I have never seen all 3 activate, 3. The right button of the middle button bar is impossible to hit with a skill shot. You have to rely on luck, and even then it almost never activates.

Anyway, I hope these are looked at, because they do detract from the fun of the game when you happen to end up with one of these targets as your checkpoint.

Keep up the good work! I hope TDP sells 3m copies too!

  48. David says:

This is kind of annoying. At the top of the Application Description for The Deep Pinball on the App page it says:
    TDP 1.1 update in review.
    Camera On/Off
    Voice On/Off
    Music On/Off
    OS 2.x Compatibility
    Minor Fixes

This basically tells me that the game is compatible with OS 2. So I thought I’d support you guys, since I enjoyed your Wild West pinball so much. Had I scrolled to the bottom of the screen I might have noticed that there it says it requires OS 3.

I have no intention of paying $10 for an OS that I don’t want or need, just to play this pinball game. I’m glad I’m only out $1. Otherwise I’d be complaining to Apple. If I were you I’d update that information ASAP. The last thing you need are a bunch of pissed off customers.

  49. JavaJ says:

    August 25th, 2009 at 3:59 am (#)

wow- it is taking forever for the update.
How the heck is TravisHon getting 64mill yet keeps at stage 1. I think he found a loophole- or just is good at hitting the treasure chest.

  50. veggies says:

    August 26th, 2009 at 8:13 am (#)

    some tips:
    1) as some have pointed out, the shark hunt has a back and forth motion that can be adjusted by hitting the flippers (hard to explain, but basically the flipper will reverse the direction of the shooter — so if it’s moving left to right and you hit the left flipper, the shooter will move back to the left. try it for a clearer understanding). also, there’s a small row of lights that is a visual countdown. i think it’s green green yellow red red or something.

    2) I agree that the docks are IMPOSSIBLE to hit with a skill shot. and that the targets by the whirlpool are also impossible to hit. I’ve tried delicate flipper-launches but the ball whizzes by. some adjustment would be nice for these two mission critical targets. I don’t find the central targets difficult to hit, even the one on the right. tricky but doable.

    3) the “energy” seems to be the blue dots that light up along the top. can’t confirm this, but there are some times when lighting up those lights will make even a slow ball rocket to the treasure chest. Other times it seems like a really strong flipper shot will do it. hard to figure out.

finally — there’s nothing wrong with a user’s guide. it’s not just this game. seems there are few developers spending time creating guides. it doesn’t ruin the game to describe how to get points and how to complete missions.

overall, i enjoy this game! would love to see some updates to make things a little less reliant on random bounces.
